Jessica’s newest book series, The Lobster Chronicles, was launched by Kids Can Press in 2012. The first installment in this series is called Lower the Trap.
She recently wrote a nonfiction article on how to write a book series for the Canadian Children’s Book News (summer, 2011). She also wrote a fiction short story for ChickaDEE Magazine (winter, 2011).
Jessica will be touring Ontario in May, 2012, during TD Canadian Children’s Book Week. She will also be touring Newfoundland (Northern Peninsula) in October, 2012 with the support of the Canada Council.
The Canadian Children’s Book Centre invited Jessica to serve as one of the judges for the 201 Book Week Writing Contest for Kids and Teens. The results have been posted. She has been asked to serve again as a judge for the 2012 Book Week Writing Contest for Kids and Teens.
Jessica also served as a judge of the Young Adult category for the 34th annual Atlantic Canada Writing Competition.
Jessica recently delivered a workshop on how to write a book series to members of the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia. She gave presentations to the Association of Teachers of English of Nova Scotia and to the annual conference of the Canadian Society of Authors, Illustrators and Performers entitled Packaging Your Imagination, at the University of Toronto. Her workshop was called “Writing for Boys (even if you never were one).”
Jessica is participating in the 2011-12 Writers in the Schools Program, organized by the Writers Federation of Nova Scotia. She will be visiting the following schools:
- Cavelier Drive School
- Michael Wallace Elementary School
- Sheet Harbour Elementary School
- Tantallon Elementary School
