For Adults
Jessica has written a fiction series for elementary school children, and in particular, young male readers. As such, a presentation that she has developed for an adult audience explores the following question as it relates to her own creative writing process:
If boys aren’t reading fiction, what is it about the fiction that they are asked to read in class or at home that they don’t like – and more importantly what kind of fiction do they like to read, if given a choice.
Jessica has presented across Canada and in the United States, and most recently at the International Readers’ Association conference in Toronto and the annual writing conference for the Canadian Society of Authors, Illustrators and Performance, also in Toronto. She has also been invited to teach a writing course on developing characters for elementary school readers for the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia.
